Game City

Just got back from Game City I had a good time and managed to get some feedback for our game concept. Most people liked the idea of a game 3D game where the player can manipulate the environment. The problem is we don’t know exactly how the player will use this ability. It is clear that there is a good gameplay mechanic there, but we don’t know what it is yet.
Nobody was that keen on using the environment against enemies as it just feels like a different take on a very familiar mechanic. The idea that was most popular the 3D jigsaw puzzle idea. James Newman suggested that the 3D puzzle idea would work better if the environment were full of pieces that are not needed for the player’s progression as well as the pieces that are. Other advice given to me was to not get tied down with look of the game before we know what our gameplay mechanic is and don’t make design decisions based on what is easy to do in Unreal.
